Join Kate Skaggs for a day of ritual, community, and yoga
Gain tools to use in daily life to support current and future grief, when it inevitably comes through. This is a space to acknowledge and process grief related to our human-caused climate crisis, in a group setting, sangha. Extractive and oppressive systems of harm that cause inequities at the collective, interpersonal, and personal scales, also exacerbate an imbalance of Earth's natural world, of which we are a part.
We’ll start by spending time getting to know each other and in opening ritual. You’re invited to bring an object to help build an altar for the class. This will be followed by a gentle movement practice, guided meditation, pranayama, asana (gentle, flow, and restorative). We will have time for rest and integration as well as time for sharing and witnessing each other.
This offering doesn't provide a false sense of hope or propose an individual solution to a systemic issue. This offering does hold space to practice yoga as transformational healing practices that can offer ongoing guidance for moving these energies through the body; as a way to take care of ourselves and stay engaged.
All participants will receive a recording of the practice for future use. (This offering is an evolution of the 'Holding Space for Climate Grief' workshop held over the past couple years, co-created with Danielle Jones; informed and strongly influenced by many teachers, poets, writers, and healers.)
Please bring or have ready:
an object to be near you that brings a sense of grounding and rootedness, or you can place it on an altar

About Kate Skaggs + Danielle Hanna
Kate Skaggs (she/they)
A curiosity of exploring inner and outer landscapes gently pulled me into practicing yoga many years ago. The practice offered a small space in the day to slow down, be more deliberate about where I focused my attention, and heal.
I am actively, humbly, working to dismantle my internalized implicit biases but know that I will make mistakes; accountability and integrity matter to me and I am working to grow those skills when the impact of my words or actions cause harm. The linkage of yoga philosophy to the rest of life is what I hope to hold space for others to explore through asana (postures) in a similar way; taking experiences from one’s own mat back out into daily life.
I am especially passionate about offering classes accessible to people who are curious about yoga and am dedicated to providing many different suggestions for ways of engaging with these practices.
